Meet Ben Hudson

Candidate for Fluvanna County Treasurer

Benjamin “Ben” L. Hudson is a teacher and retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel.  After serving as Senior Joint Strategic Communications Officer for the United States Southern Command from 2005-2008, Ben retired from active duty service on August 1, 2008 after more than 25 years of service.

Ben earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Tuskegee University.  Upon completion of company command, Ben was selected to study at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), and in December 1993 he earned a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  Shortly after his departure from NPS, Ben worked as a research engineer at one of the most advanced state-of-the-art facilities in Charlottesville, VA, from 1993-1996.  As an educator, Ben also earned his Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration with Certification in 2015 from Walden University. Also, he is a graduate of the 1997 DoD Command and Staff College.

Ben is a proponent of education programs that work to encourage community engagement. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s Sorensen Institute and Fluvanna County’s Leadership Development Program.

Additionally, Ben holds a Virginia teacher license certification and currently teaches with Fluvanna County Public Schools.

Ben is a caring, trusted, and capable leader who will work hard for every person in Fluvanna County.  Once elected, Ben will work diligently on major issues affecting the Office of the Treasurer: improving transparency, communicaitons, and accountability; integrating technology and automation into the office operations; promoting professional staff development; and educating the community about the services performed by the treasurer’s office. As a businessman and public servant for 35 years, Ben has the right skill set to represent the citizens of Fluvanna County. 

Ben has been married to the former Brenda L. Jackson for 35 years. Ben and Brenda live in Palmyra, and have three adult sons and one granddaughter and a grandson.
